Spring is Coming to Manchac Swamp
The winter in Louisiana this year was all over the place. Freezing temperatures would plummet into the 20 degree range answered shortly thereafter by warming trends to 80 degrees. This made for a pretty drab winter. The wildlife in the swamp hunkered down to avoid the tumultuous winter weather conditions. As we approach the spring equinox on March 20, 2018 the signs of spring are already making themselves apparent in the Manchac Swamp. The alligators have come out of their wintertime “torpor” and are out basking in the sunlight. The swamp maples are bright red with their samara seeds and spider lilies are beginning to pop up along the swamp floor. It is a glorious time of year to explore the Manchac Swamp.
